Currently obsessing over: Coffee

Obsessing over my new Starbucks Insulated Cold Cup. I heard that they were coming back so when I got my iced coffee (only $1.95 for a limited time folks!) this morning and saw these babies displayed gloriously upon me entering, I grabbed one up without a second thought. It may look like a regular plastic cup. But the insulated Cold Cup is made of double walled hard plastic, not the flimsy disposable kind. It has a screw on lid and a hard plastic straw as well. I love it. I'm saving money with the Cup Discount and the environment all at the same time! Can't beat that.
Speaking of coffee...I also have been obsessing over finding a coffee maker for at home. My addiction for coffee has gone rampant and I crave it almost every morning now. And seeing how I am usually rushing out the door...I usually don't have time to stop by and get some Starbucks. So I tried to save a buck and a trip by consuming the coffee provided by my office. Until one of my coworkers gasped at me and said, "you drink that stuff?! I heard it taste like Motor Oil?" And now ever since she said that, all I can taste when I drink it is motor oil. Humph. So I figured its time to invest in a coffee pot. I have a few things I'm looking for:

1. I would like it to have a programmable setting so that it brews automatically for me in the morning. I'm def not a morning person (hence the coffee) so the boyfriend usually gets everything going for us in the morning. I don't want to add to his list by making him make my coffee. This way I can set it the night before and the worst he has to do is put it in my cup for me :)

2. I would prefer it to be red because I have a whole red and aqua color motif going on in my kitchen. Problem is I haven't found any decent red ones. Most of them have had bad reviews. I guess more form over function.

3. I would like it to have its own metal filter. I heard it taste better than using the paper ones.

I also have been hearing a lot lately that Dunkin Donuts Coffee Beans taste better than Starbucks. Can anyone vouch for that? Or does anyone have a good coffee maker at a decent price. I don't want to spend more than $40 for one.

Shirt Upcycle!

I'm really starting to pick up momentum with sewing again and that makes me happy. I have finished sewing one of my baby projects for my sister. I just have to do some finishing touches and I'll be able to cross one baby project off my to-do list.

But I will have to leave ya hanging for just a bit until after I actually give them to my sister and the baby-to-be. But don't fret. I did finish this small patch-up job for the boyfriend. He has a horrible tendency of ripping holes in the elbow area of his work button ups. I blame his boney elbows and the fact that he rolls his sleeves up. That or American Eagle is really slacking on their material. So instead of throwing the overly priced button ups out...we decided to alter them a bit.



HAZAA! Once useless long sleeved button ups. Now...perfect for the warm weather, short sleeved button ups! I begged him to let me add corduroy elbow patches instead. Alas he refused. Hah! Take care everyone ;)

mmm cake...

Sorry to have been slacking on the posting lately. It seems like every weekend there is some occasion or party to go to, so needless to say I haven't had all that much time to sit down and post. Unfortunately, the only reason I have time to post something now is because I am up at midnight with a tummy ache. Poo. Ah well...at least I'm being productive...if you call blogging productive. Which I do. Since parties are what I've been up to lately, I thought I'd share the awesome decorating skills of a good family friend of mine, Ann. She is the talented mother of the two boys we recently went to birthday parties for. Check out these awesome cakes. Ann is self taught. No classes. She just really enjoys cake decorating and really has a knack for it if you ask me.


For her youngest son Jayden, she made the most adorable Wall-E cake. The square most part of Wall-E was cake, while the wheels were made out of rice cakes. Awesome.


Just recently, Ann's eldest son Justin, celebrated his Star Wars themed birthday. It was layered with Mocha, Strawberry, and Lemon cake! She handmade Yoda out of rice cakes again I believe. The only thing she didn't handcraft were the small figurines and the ship.


Being the ambitious DIYer I am. I too have ventured into cake decorating at one point. Lets just say its not my forte. It was very time consuming and I really didn't have any fun doing it. It was very stressful for me because you have to work fast or the fondant will dry out. I made this ages ago for one of my birthdays. (Yes I made my own birthday cake. Sad I know...well with the help of Kelly) Its supposed to be a present. But later on in the evening the ribbon curls started to break in half :( Anyway, I'm more of a frosting girl...I usually end up just peeling all the fondant off most fondant cakes. Maybe one day I'll try it again, in the meantime I'll just leave the cake decorating to the talented people that enjoy doing it...I know who I'll be hitting up for Carmen's birthdays here on out!

Hello Snotface!

So I heard on the radio the other day that one of my favorite movies growing up will be remade. Drop Dead Fred starring Phoebe Cates and Rik Mayall will be remade by Universal Studios! UK's dirtiest looking comedian Russell Brand will star as Lizzie's (Cates) imaginary friend, Fred (Mayall). I don't know how I feel about this bc sometimes Brand is annoying and I can only take him in small doses. That and because remakes usually suck hard so seeing a classic favorite like Drop Dead Fred remade sorta has me on the fence. I'm not going to lie, growing up I was a bit afraid of the movie because some parts are of the dark humor area and were quite frightening as a little girl. The same thing went for Beetle Juice, either way Drop Dead Fred is a nostalgic movie for me and I am happy to see it being brought to the attention of younger audiences who may not have heard of the movie. But, I am still quite afraid they might butcher it to death : (
